Learning Objectives
- Describe both the health and economic implications of the escalating prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF).
- Outline the current guidelines for the management of AF and describe at least three goals of AF treatment.
- List two risk factors for AF progression and discuss the role of AF in the cardiovascular disease continuum.
- List the benefits of sinus rhythm (SR) and the challenges associated with cardioversion and maintenance of SR, and apply recent data on rhythm management with antiarrhythmic drugs to clinical practice.
- Discuss the impact of comorbid conditions, particularly congestive heart failure, on the management of AF.
