Learning Objectives

  • Describe current guideline recommendations for the use of antiplatelet therapies in the management ACS patients, including the implications of the latest STEMI guidelines on clinical practice.
  • Formulate an approach to the use of evidence-based antiplatelet therapies in the ACS patient undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, including timing and dosage considerations.
  • Apply research data on antiplatelet therapy in ACS patients as it relates to genetic polymorphism, and discuss the latest evidence on concomitant use of thienopyridines and proton pump inhibitors.
  • Outline at least two considerations related to the long-term safety and efficacy of various antiplatelet agents in patients who have had a coronary event.
