Target Audience

This activity is designed for surgeons and other healthcare providers involved in the management of patients undergoing surgery.

 

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify and stratify risk factors for VTE in patients undergoing surgery.
  2. Describe the JCAHO/NQF and SCIP Quality Measures for the prevention of VTE.
  3. Describe the ACCP guideline recommendations and the importance of the continuity of care for VTE prophylaxis in surgical patients transitioning from inpatient to outpatient.
  4. Discuss the benefits, risks and economic implications of VTE prophylaxis.
